SYNOPSIS

Act 1: A Rocky Seashore On The Coast Of Cornwall

Act 2: A Ruined Chapel By Moonlight

Pirates is one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s best loved shows. Tonight’s production is a special adaptation for younger voices which combines all the fun of a traditional Gilbert & Sullivan opera with the razzmatazz of a Broadway musical. It is Wacky, irreverent and as entertaining today as it was when it first opened in 1879.

This will be the UK Operatic Society premier of the show!

A band of Swashbuckling Pirates meet a bevy of giggling Victorian maidens in this rollicking romp on the rocky coast of Cornwall. Can the bumbling Keystone Cops save them?

The show tells the dilemma of Fredrick who was mistakenly apprenticed to the pirates instead of a pilot by his hard of hearing nursemaid Ruth. At his 21st Birthday celebrations Frederic decides to leave the Pirates, stumbles across the beautiful daughters of the Major General and falls in love with Mabel, The rest of the pirates catch them, but the Major General claims to be an orphan and wins a reprieve from the soft hearted Pirate King. Fredric joins forces with the local police to catch the pirates. However Ruth and the King tell him that he was born in leap year on 29th February and he is technically still an apprentice.

The Junior Broadway Pirates sparkles with Gilbert's wit and Sullivan’s catchy tunes including Mabel’s ‘Poor Wandering One’ the famous 'Modern Major General’ patter-song, and ‘I am a Pirate King'.                          Back to Pirates Home Page
